Birmingham International Station - between the Airport and NEC

Birmingham International Station is on the West Coast Mainline between Birmingham New Street and Coventry and onto London Euston. It opened in 1976 and is used for Birmingham Airport / NEC.

Birmingham International Station is on Station Link Road, Marston Green, Solihull, B40 1PA (near Birmingham)

 

In brief

The station opened on the West Coast Mainline in January 1976, ahead of the opening of the National Exhibition Centre. Birmingham International Station is linked to Birmingham Airport by the Air-Rail Link. And there is good bus links with the X1 and X12.

There is a taxi rank on Station Link Road. As well as bus stops for the X1 and X12. The doors inside the building open automatically when the bus arrives.

Birmingham International Station - bus interchange

Inside is benches to wait for your buses between Birmingham, Coventry and Solihull. Escalators take you up to the station to access Birmingham Airport, the NEC and the rail platforms.

Birmingham International Station - platforms

There is five platforms at Birmingham International Station. You can have a fast 10 to 20 minute journey to Birmingham New Street. Or head south towards Coventry or London Euston. Useful for visitors to Birmingham Airport and the NEC.

Birmingham International Station - NEC bridge

In the other direction is the bridge from Birmingham International Station to the National Exhibition Centre. There might be occasional bag checks on here from security staff.

Air-Rail Link

The Air-Rail Link goes between Birmingham International Interchange to Birmingham Airport Station. There is two air-rail link cars, and you can travel in them for free.

Trains at Birmingham International

London Midland operated local services for a decade until the end of 2017. They were replaced by London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway (both part of West Midlands Trains).

London Northwestern Railway took over the running of the Class 350's from predecessors London Midland. They would refurbish them, and change their liveries in the early 2020s.

Arriva Trains Wales ran the Class 158 trains between Birmingham International and North Wales until the autumn of 2018. They were replaced by Transport for Wales Rail Services. West Midlands passengers could catch them at Wolverhampton or Birmingham New Street if heading for Birmingham International. They also stop at Smethwick Galton Bridge.

Trains to Wales

Transport for Wales Rail Services (and Arriva Trains Wales before them), have a line from Birmingham International towards Holyhead. You can even get a train to / from Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch in Anglesey!
