Cricket World Cup 2019: Fan Zone at Victoria Square

The Fan Zone was in Victoria Square over the boiling hot weekend of 28th to 30th June 2019 for the Cricket World Cup 2019. On Sunday 30th June 2019 was the match between England and India at Edgbaston. The Bullring bull has also got dressed up for the occasion.

Link to my previous post here on the Cricket World Cup 2019 at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

First up, passing Edgbaston on Saturday 29th June 2019 as the team coaches were outside of the stadium with on looking fans. These views from the top deck of the 1A bus on Edgbaston Road.

View of the stands with the #OD4C hashtag - Unicef - Onew Day 4 Children.

The training ground. This is where the England and India teams would be practising the days before. Also media vans behind.

Preparing the training ground. They do the same to the main pitch. Cyclists can head to the right along Cannon Hill Road to the City Centre.

Saw this Cricket World Cup 2019 advert in Kings Heath on the Alcester Road South, between buses. I had just got off an NXWM Platinum 50 when another one showed up. But buses on the 11A was due in 20 minutes, and the 76 (which I ended up getting) was due in 16 minutes. And it was a very hot Saturday afternoon!

OK, time to head to the City Centre.

The Bullring Bull dressed up for #CWC19. Previous post here The many outfits of the Birmingham Bullring Bull!

In Rotunda Square outside of the Nationwide Building Society was the NatWest #NoBoundaries Cricket Experience.

A glimpse of the screen about the Fan Zone in Victoria Square, 28th to 30th June 2019 on the Media Eye at Birmingham New Street Station facing the Bullring. This view from the Moor Street Link Bridge.

Now to the actual Fan Zone in Victoria Square.

Street Sprint near the Town Hall.

Information - Your Own Training Ground. Close to the Council House.

Totally Wicket. An area to enjoy drinks at the bar.

Beach Ball close to the Council House.

Watch the match here if you don't have tickets, or don't have access to Sky Sports Cricket! Or just follow the texts on the BBC Sport app instead.

Clothes Line Catch near the main entrance to the Council House.

A media van at the bottom of the square behind the big screen. Used to be a permanent big screen around here years ago before it was removed.

About to head down Pinfold Street past the Midland Metro Alliance works, one last look as Queen Victoria and one of the Guardians keeps watch over the cricket activities!

England beat India by 31 runs.

England v India: Jonny Bairstow & Liam Plunkett star in hosts' World Cup win.

Black Sabbath Bench on Broad Street on the hottest day of the year so far!

I wasn't able to get to Westside on the day when Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi unveiled the Black Sabbath Bench on the renamed Black Sabbath Bridge above the Broad Street Tunnel. So popped along in the scorching sunshine to see it on Saturday 29th June 2019. Bit of a crowd around it taking their own photos too. Is also a new exhibition at BM & AG from the Home of Metal.

The Black Sabbath Bench was unveiled by Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi on Wednesday 26th June 2019. From the images / videos I've seen they went along the canal in narrowboat. Wasn't able to get their that day (would have been too crowded and I wasn't aware of it until it was taking place). Bill Ward and Ozzy Osbourne were unable to make it.

Photo collage of Geezer, Ozzy, Tony and Bill. Didn't realise that they had signatures on them, so Bill was a bit cut off on the zoom ins.

Full view of the Black Sabbath Bench on the Black Sabbath Bridge. Behind is The ICC and Arena Birmingham alongwith Brindleyplace.

Side view and other people taking Smartphone photos, including some were sitting on it having their photo taken.

Other side towards the path to Brindleyplace near The Brasshouse and Celebrity Restaurant.

Side view and I think they have removed Ozzy's star that used to be here. But I believe all four stars will go in front. Tony's was still in place a bit further down near The ICC and Symphony Hall.

Back in December 2009 was when I first started taking photos of the Broad Street Walk of Stars. Ozzy Osbourne used to have his star on the bridge above the Broad Street Tunnel. Hopefully it will return soon.

Tony Iommi's star also seen during December 2009. As far as I am aware, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward have yet to receive stars on Broad Street. But expect them to get some placed in front of the bench in the near future.

Walking past Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery in Chamberlain Square. A new exhibition has opened in the Gas Hall from the Home of Metal called Black Sabbath 50 Years A Major Exhibition. Tickets at www.homeofmetal.com.

Also saw a billboard for this exhibition from the no 50 bus on Rea Street near Birmingham Coach Station in Digbeth. It was near The Anchor Inn. Other billboards are around other parts of the city as well. Rock 'N' Roll!
